High levels of oxalate in your urine is a well documented risk factor for the formation of kidney stones. If your seeking advice on a kidney stone diet, then you’ll want to avoid foods that increase your levels of urinary oxalate.

The foods listed below, a partial list, are known to play a key role in increasing urinary oxalate levels. It’s advised that these be minimized in any kidney stone diet:

- soda
- strawberries
- tea
- soybeans
- nuts (including almonds and peanuts)
- spinach
- chocolate
- sugar

You’ll also want to maintain low levels of urinary calcium. You can reduce urinary calcium levels by including more bran in your kidney stone diet. Bran is an insoluble fiber which lowers the absorption of calcium. This in turn helps keep urinary calcium levels down and prevent kidney stones from forming.

Overall, your kidney stone diet should be low in protein and sodium. It’s important not to limit calcium as it’s a critical requirement for our bodies. Calcium isn’t the culprit anyhow – the problem is when calcium binds with oxalate in the intestinal tract. The most advisable course of action is to focus on reducing foods that are high in oxalate.

Additionally, in any kidney stone diet, it’s important to reduce the consumption of animal protein. High in sulfur, animal protein robs the calcium from your bones and can cause kidney stones.

In summary, be sure to drink plenty of water, avoid foods high in oxalate, and maintain a diet low in protein and sodium. With these tips you’re well on your way to maintaining a healthy kidney stone diet.

Kidney stone pain is no joke. Maybe you are wondering if you have kidney stones and want to know what they feel like. Well, with stones it really depends on the size and amount. Large kidney stones can cause excruciating pain. You can experience back pain and similar pain that comes from a urinary tract infection. Many people experience pain while trying to take a breath as well.

Believe it or not, kidney stones can be huge (think golf ball!) or miniscule such as a grain of rice.

Intense pain is how most people will describe having and especially passing a kidney stone.

If you are unsure whether or not you have kidney stones it is a good idea to consult with your doctor. If you are diagnosed with kidney stones, take some time to read the other articles on this site as they will help you manage and treat kidney stones.

Stones in the kidney are followed by terrible pain which is difficult to bear and people who have suffered will be aware of this. When you have developed kidney stone once there is almost fifty percent possibility of getting another kidney stone in future. It is one of the most often found and agonizing urinary tract conditions. In fact men have greater chances of developing kidney stones. When a person is aware he looks for ways of natural treatment for kidney stone to help in the healing process.

The cure is prevention. Ninety percent of all kidney stones are due to dehydration. Because of this fact, the best and most common kidney stone cure is drinking plenty of water. To prevent kidney stones, you need to drink at least enough water to produce two quarts of urine in twenty-four hours. Cranberry juice however, is an ineffectual kidney ..

Kidney stones are a painful condition that you want to get rid of any way you can. While there are several causes of kidney stones, and a few different kinds, one of the most important factors in treating them is your diet. Some of the tips here will apply to you more or less depending on the kind of kidney stones you have. If you don’t know, you might want to find out. If you’ve been x-rayed, your doctor can tell you. For example, if your kidney stones contain calcium, you want to reduce (though not eliminate) calcium in your diet. The same goes for oxalates.

Water and Fluids

No matter what kind of kidney stones you have, you definitely want to increase your intake of water. It is usually recommended that you drink between two and three quarts of water per day, preferably filtered. This is the single best way to dissolve and kind of kidney stone so that it passes with your urine.

Other fluids can be good as well, but in addition to, not in place of pure water. This includes juices made from kidney-friendly fruits, especially cranberry and watermelon. Lemons are also very good for general detoxifying. You can squeeze fresh lemon into anything, such as herbal teas, salad dressings or just water (adding lemon to water is one exception to the above rule, as this does not count as a separate beverage like drinking juice).

Foods To Reduce or Avoid

In general, you should avoid junk or unhealthy foods as much as possible. This will help you detox and, along with the other tips, speed up the dissolving of your kidney stones. This includes most sweets made from refined sugar, unhealthy fats (found in most junk foods, as well as many fried foods), soda, caffeine (if you don’t want to give up caffeine completely, drink one or two cups of green tea per day), , alcohol and carbohydrates made from white and other processed flours.

Certain foods that you should reduce but not entirely eliminate (as they are necessary) when you have kidney stones are high protein foods, calcium-rich foods and supplements and oxalate-rich foods. Oxalates are the trickiest, as they are present in many foods that are basically good for us, including spinach and other dark leaf vegetables, blueberries, nuts, beans, beets, chocolate and blueberries. Again, you don’t have to eliminate these completely (unless it has been determined that your kidney stones are oxalate in nature), but cut down on them.

These tips should help you to balance your body and pass your kidney stones naturally. In general, the best kidney stone diet is a healthy one, with a few modifications.

Anyone who has suffered from kidney stone pain knows that it can be an extremely uncomfortable, even excruciatingly painful experience. There are several causes of kidney stones, from infections to hereditary factors, and there are many possible treatments, ranging from conventional medicine (including drugs and sometimes surgery) to herbal and holistic treatments.

There is a growing school of thought that believes that stress is a major factor in all disease, and that this can be significantly reduced by certain practices. Reducing stress is not always easy, and involves looking at all the areas of your life. There are certain specific techniques however, such as meditation and visualization that can be helpful for any condition, including kidney stone pain.

There are many kinds of meditation and visualization exercises. In its simplest form, meditation involves sitting with the back as straight as possible, focusing on taking deep, relaxing breaths, and emptying the mind of thought and worries as much as possible. If thoughts do rise up in the mind, which they inevitably will, don’t be concerned or try to fight them off; just allow them to be and try to let go of them. Meditating like this every day, for a period of anywhere from ten minutes to a half hour can be extremely helpful.

Visualization is a somewhat more involved process, though, like meditation, it starts off with the idea of relaxation. There are tapes with atmospheric music, and also some with affirmations, that can be used to help you with a guided meditation or visualization. You can, however, do this on your own as well. First relax as much as possible. You can either sit or lie down. As you breathe deeply, without trying to force the breath, imagine healing light going through your body with each breath in. With each outgoing breath, imagine any toxins leaving the body. You can visualize toxins any way you want; it can be dark smoke, for example, or even little gremlins.
If you are working on something specific like kidney stone pain, direct the healing light to the area of the kidneys, which are located on either side of the lower back.

The key with a practice such as meditation or visualization is to do it consistently. And, even though you want it to help, try to approach the process without expectations, as this interferes with your ability to relax and “go with the flow.”
You can do simple meditations and visualizations to help reduce the occurrence of almost any ailments, including kidney stone pain. When directed to, the body naturally knows where to send healing energy.

Kidney stones are a common but very painful condition of the urinary tract. In extreme cases, people go to the emergency room to have them surgically removed. In the majority of cases, however, passing kidney stones happens naturally. In fact, the majority of kidney stones pass without you ever knowing they were there, because of their small size. It’s only the larger ones that become problematic, and the passing of these stones can be helped along with the right diet and lifestyle changes.

What Are Kidney Stones?

Kidney stones are hard masses that separate from the urine to form crystals. They are made of various types of chemicals, especially calcium, oxalates and phosphates. This is why it is usually recommended that you cut back on your intake of calcium and oxalates when you have this condition. Less commonly, kidney stones are caused by an infection of the urinary tract.

What Helps Kidney Stones Pass?

The best remedy for kidney stones is simply water, preferably filtered. It is recommended that you drink between two and three quarts of water per day. Another way to measure it is that you want to drink enough water every day to produce at least two quarts of urine. This, more than anything else, helps the kidney stones to pass quickly.

Changes In Diet

If you have kidney stones, you should reduce your intake of foods that contain oxalates. This includes spinach, swiss chard and other dark green vegetables; rhubarb, chocolate, black tea, sweet potatoes and beets.

You should also not consume large amounts of calcium, as found in some supplements. You don’t have to avoid dairy products completely, but don’t eat large amounts of them. Similarly, don’t eat a high protein diet. Too much protein is not good for the kidneys in general, so if you have kidney stones you want to watch this (though you shouldn’t try to avoid protein completely).

Also, avoid soda, coffee and alcohol. Green tea, which contains about half the caffeine of coffee and has many healing properties, is good to drink in moderation. As for foods that are good for the kidneys, cranberries, watermelons and lemons are all good as juices or supplements.

More Remedies to Help Pass Stones

Staying physically active is important, especially exercise that makes you sweat, which is an important way the body releases toxins. Herbs that are helpful for kidney stones include dandelion, buchu, cleavers and couch grass. A folk remedy that many people find effective is to mix equal parts olive oil and lemon juice and drink it, followed by a glass of water. This can all make the passing of kidney stones much easier.

There are many treatments for the painful condition known as kidney stones, which occurs when minerals and other substances build up in the urinary tract. In many cases, by changing your diet you can help to naturally dissolve your kidney stones. The kidneys are the organ that cleans the blood and detoxifies the whole body, so your diet is especially important for this organ. Here are ten tips to help you pass your kidney stones and prevent them from recurring.

Increase Consumption of Water
This is very important if you want to get rid of kidney stones. Water dilutes toxins and allows them to exit your body with the urine. Drink at least two quarts of water every day, best if filtered.

Reduce Sugar, Caffeine and Alcohol
All of these are irritating to the kidneys. Also avoid artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Try to get your sweeteners in natural form, like honey and fresh fruit.

Take this Tonic Twice Daily
Mix 1/4 cup of fresh lemon or organic lemon juice with 1/4 cup of cold-pressed olive oil and drink, followed by eight ounces of water. This is a very effective kidney stone treatment.

Get Regular Exercise
Exercise is important as well. You release toxins by sweating and breathing more deeply, which occur when you get vigorous exercise. Find something that you like, whether its fast walking, running, hiking, racket sports, swimming or biking. Stationary machines are good as well.

Reduce These Oxalate-rich Foods
Certain foods, known as oxalates, can be irritating to the urinary tract. In fact, kidney stones are often made partly of oxalates. Research shows that certain oxalate rich foods such as spinach, chocolate, nuts, rhubarb, beets and tea should be reduced when you have kidney stones.

Eat Moderate Amounts of Protein, Calcium and Sodium
You don’t have to avoid these foods -in fact, you need protein and calcium, but don’t eat large quantities of high protein foods or consume extra calcium in the form of supplements or calcium-based antacids. Dairy products are okay in moderation, preferably organic. Your sodium intake should be moderate, and try to get pure sea salt instead of regular table salt.

Eat or Drink Melons
Melons, especially watermelon, is a great tonic for the kidneys. Cantaloupe and other melons are good as well.

Drink Herbal Teas
Since you want to cut down on caffeine with kidney stones, you might try decaffeinated green tea. Herbal teas can also be good -detoxifiers and diuretics like dandelion, cleavers, couch grass and buchu can be helpful.

Meditate or Visualize
The mind has a powerful effect on the body. If you take even ten minutes per day and relax, breathe deeply and imagine healing energy going through your body, focused especially in the kidney area, you will be helping to heal yourself. It’s good to do this twice per day if possible, such as early in the morning and before going to sleep.

Cook With Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the healthiest oils you can ingest. It provides high levels of healthy fat, which is good for your whole body. It is an excellent accompaniment to a kidney stone diet as well.

In most cases, kidney stone treatment is simply to drink plenty of water and stay active. Typically within 2-3 days you will pass these small kidney stones when you urinate. You might find that it’s somewhat painful passing the stones, and can speak to your doctor about a prescription for painkillers.

But for some, kidney stones are larger and require kidney stone treatment. Larger kidney stones can cause kidney damage, bleeding, or urinary tract infection. So what are your options?

Well, you can undergo a painful shock wave treatment. Sure you’ll have sedatives or anesthesia, but be prepared because it’s not a pleasant experience. The shock waves attempt to shatter the kidney stones, which then pass more easily when you next urinate. The problem is, you still have to pass the crumbled stones, and sometimes this kidney stone treatment doesn’t even completely shatter the stones.

Your other option, if your kidney stones are too large, is to undergo surgery. This involves a small incision in your back (you are under general anesthesia). You’d be in the hospital a couple of days and then recovering for a couple of weeks or more. Again, not the most desirable kidney stone treatment option especially if you dislike hospitals and needles.

Another option for kidney stone treatment is to have your doctor insert a small ureteroscope through your bladder into the ureter. He or she will then attempt to catch hold of the stone and shatter it. Then you might get a small tube placed in the ureter to help with healing. This certainly doesn’t sound like an ideal kidney stone treatment but it is effective.

Finally, if these medical kidney stone treatment options aren’t your cup of tea, you should really take a look at a guide written by author Joe Barton. You don’t need kidney stone treatment after you read his guide. Joe unveils an incredible natural method which will dissolve your kidney stones into tiny particles, allowing you to pass them pain free.
